Workers’ Compensation Rates Hit Record Low for Certified Logging Professionals in Maine

Mechanical CLPs enjoy a Workers Compensation rate that is 48% less than non-certified mechanical loggers. The conventional CLP logging rate is 83% less than in 1988.

Initial Certification Course Outline

CLP is a 3-day course with a total of 32 hours of instruction in the following areas for mechanical or conventional logging:

Day 1

8 hours in the classroom

  • Intro. to CLP

  • CLP Code of Ethics

  • Intro to Safe & Efficient Harvesting

  • Transportation Safety

  • Intro to the Business of Logging

  • Logging Safety/OSHA Regulations

Day 2

8 hours in the classroom

  • Forest Management & Silviculture

  • Conserving Fish & Wildlife

  • Water Quality & Logging

  • Controlled Yarding

  • Hazardous Material Training

  • Harvesting Regulations

Day 3

8 hours in the field

  • Level I Game of Logging training for conventional loggers or mechanical harvesting systems

  • Certification Interview Form Review

Day 4
  • 1st Aid Training/CPR

Optional, 8 hours in the classroom

Tuition

$500 – Includes all program materials, lunch each day, and the on-site interview for certification.

$100 (optional) -Additional payment to include first aid and CPR certification.

Recertification

8 hours of continuing education units are required every two years to maintain certification.

Recertification Fee

$200 â€‹

To ensure verification of logger professionalism in the field, the $200 recertification fee is required even if you attend an approved outside workshop.

To receive CLP recertification credit for attending external training, you can send your certificate along with the recertification fee to cj@mainetree.org. Please include the program title, date, provider, and location of the training. Once we confirm your attendance and payment, we will issue a new certificate with your updated expiration date. If you prefer an invoice for your employer/contractor, please inform us. For any inquiries, please contact Maine TREE Foundation at 207-621-9872.

To obtain your certificate as a new Certified Logging Professional, you must undergo a field inspection Our goal is to complete all inspections by the end of the year. On the day of evaluation, you will need to present a first aid/CPR card. To request a field inspection, please contact Mike St. Peter, Safety Trainer at 207-668-2841 or clploggers@myfairpoint.net.
